Happy 80th Birthday Riz Ortolani

Riziero Ortolani was born on August 3, 1931 in Pesaro, Italy. In the 1950s Riz formed and played with a jazz band before becoming a film composer. His first film score was for the 1954 film "Le vacanze del Sor Clement". In 1962 he became internationally recognized for his score to the film "Mondo Cane" with the song "More" winning a Grammy and nominated for an Oscar. Over his long career he has scored more than 200 films. Among his many scores were 17 Euro- westerns including "Shatterhand" (1964), "Kill and Pray", "Day of Anger" (both 1967), "Madron" (1970), "The Hunting Party" (1971) and "Massacre at Fort Holman" (1972). In 2004 Riz was awarded the Pippo Barzizza for his career as an arranger and composer. Riz is married to singer Katyn Ranieri [1927- ] since 1956 and together they have worked in the field of popular music traveling around the world and in 2007 composed music for his first play "The Prince of Youth". His daughter Rizia is a film production manager and costume coordinator. Today we celebrate Riz Ortolani’s 80th birthday.
