Who Are Those Guys? - Vastimil Bedrna


Vlastimil Bedrna was born on February 8, 1929 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. After graduation from school, he enrolled at two colleges, where he successfully completed his graduate studies in 1952. He was then admitted to the SK Neumann Theatre, followed by a brief stay in Mlada Boleslav, then a year of military service in the Army Art Ensemble (AUS) then returning to Mlada Boleslav. His classmate from the Academy of Performing Arts Year, Darek Vostřel, approached him about joining a new theater group and Bedrna thus became one of the founding members of the Rococo Theatre. Here he worked with Darek Vostřel and Jiřím Šaškem as an actor and mime until the abolition of the theater in 1972. For a long time at the Theatre on the Balustrade, he appeared and performed in almost all the plays, directed by Evald Schorm. From 1995 on he worked at the Theatre Pod Palmovkou. He married his second wife Laďka Kozderková [1949-1986], whom he met while working at the Rococo, in 1972. In 1976 they had a daughter Vlasta. For television Bedrna dubbed Homer Simpson in the animated series “The Simpsons” (1 - 12 series), but was unable to continue after a stroke. Vlastimil appeared in one Euro-western 1964’s“Lemonade Joe” as the photographer.
