Remembering Ruth Kommerell


Ruth Kommerell was born in Stuttgart Germany on May 9, 1923. After she finished her acting lessons with Emmy Remolt in Stuttgart, in 1941 she made her debut as an actress on th stage in Heilbronn. Later she performed in Tubingen, Bielefeld, Halle / Saale, and from 1952 in Berlin at the Maxim Gorki Theater, where she worked until 1957. She then worked freelance for stage, radio, and voice dubbing but especially for film and television activities of the DEFA films and the DFF. She played numerous supporting roles, as well as supporting film roles in various fairy tale adaptations towards the end of her career.
 
Her daughter Blanche Kommerell [1950- ] is an actress and author.
 
Ruth appeared in only one Euro-western “The Sons of Great Bear” as Tashina in 1966.
 
Ruth died in East Berlin, East Germany on September 1, 1986. We remember Ruth Kommerell today on what would have been her 90th birthday.
