Happy 70th Birthday Renate Blume


Renate Blume was born on May 3, 1944 in Bad Wildunger, Waldeck-Frankenberg, Germany. She wanted to become a doctor but she ended up studying at the State Drama School in Berlin-Schöneberg. While still a student, she acted in 1964 alongside Eberhard Esche in a major role in the internationally successful DEFA film “Der geteilte Himmel” based on a book by Christa Wolf. After her graduation in 1965 she became a member of the Dresden State Theatre until 1970 appearing almost exclusively on stage. From 1970 she was a member of an ensemble of actresses seen on television of the GDR. Renate starred in numerous television movies, feature films and television series, including ‘Barfuß ins Bett’.
 
In 1990, after the German reunification she failed to find work, and worked as a drama teacher. From 1992, she again received commitments on stages in Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf, Oybin and other places, in cinema and television films and television series. In 2001, she together with her son Alexander Reed was on the stage of the Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek on Rügen. Since 2003 she has been in several roles at the Berliner Kriminal Theater.
 
From 1969-1974 Renate Blume was married to director Frank Beyer. From 1974 to 1976 she lived with actor Gojko Mitic. From 1981 until his death in 1986, she was married to American actor and singer Dean Reed. Her son Alexander from her marriage with Beyer was adopted by Dean Reed.
 
Renate has appeared in three Euro-westerns: “Apaches” (1973), “Kit & Co.”, as Joy Gastell and “Ulzana” (both 1974) as Leona. She also appeared in her husband Dead Reed’s uncompleted western (due to his death) “Bloody Heart” (1986) as Jane Gonzales.
 
Today we celebrate Renate Blume’s 70th birthday.
